First-time buyers snap up first releases of affordable homes at Paignton Square

04 July 2017

Knightstone’s newest shared ownership scheme in Knowle, Bristol is being snapped up by first-time buyers stepping onto the housing ladder. Within 48 hours of phase one being released online all 15 homes were sold, and the first 24 hours saw all three bedroom homes sold. Phase two release further emphasised the demand for affordable homes in Bristol, with all six homes being reserved within an hour of release online.

Paignton Square is a new development of 35 shared ownership homes with a mix of two and three bedroom houses and one and two bedroom apartments, adjacent to green open space. The remaining 14 homes are due for release in phase three at the end of July, with homeowners moving into their new homes from September.

Other recent Knightstone developments in Brislington, Easton, Filton and Harcliffe have all been very much oversubscribed and Paignton Square’s no different with over 400 people registering their interest. More evidence again of demand for shared ownership homes in Bristol.

Nick Horne, Knightstone’s Chief Executive, said: “We’re delighted to be building more affordable new homes in Bristol, helping local people to get on the housing ladder. Paignton Square is a fantastic development in the heart of the Knowle community, which so far has attracted buyers from St George, Southville and other parts of Knowle.

“We always have, and always will remain committed to and passionate about developing affordable housing in Bristol, in partnership with Bristol City Council and developers like Speller Metcalfe. These affordable homes, and others we’ve developed in Hartcliffe, are part of our commitment to support the Mayor’s target of 800 new affordable homes built each year by 2020.

“Doing everything we can to deliver more new affordable homes in Bristol in why we’re pleased to be in talks to merge with another south west landlord, DCH, to become the south west’s largest and financially strongest housing association with over 35,000 homes. The new organisation would have the capacity to develop over 15,000 new homes over the next ten years throughout the south west. Together we would build homes across all tenures with a focus on delivering affordable homes for rent and low cost home ownership for people in housing need. This would be a vital contribution at a time of significant housing crisis, stepping up the scale of our development programme to meet the challenges and expectations of our local authority partners and our communities.”
