All the fun of the fete! Waterside House residents celebrate completion of their new community garden with a fete
On Sunday the Mayor of Taunton, Marcia Hill and our Chair, Nick Medhurst, joined residents at Waterside House for a summer fete and the opening of their community garden.
The event was organised by Waterside House’s Resident Events Group (REG), a group of residents who volunteer their time to arrange events for the whole community, working with our Community Empowerment Team.
The community garden was developed after residents applied to us for a grant to repurpose a previously unused space by their flats. With a grant of £40,000 and after lots of consultation with residents, work began in May.
The Mayor officially opened the garden at the fete, which also included a BBQ, arts and crafts activities, games, a climbing wall, coconut shy and raffle.
Kerry Pearcey, a member of the Resident Events Group said: “The fete and garden opening ceremony went really well and it was good to see some new faces. We gained a new REG member and hopefully we will have the same success with our summer holiday club.”
Our Chair, Nick Medhurst, said: “It was a privilege to be involved in this event. At Knightstone, we believe in the importance of thriving communities and we invest heavily in working with residents to help improve communities in their neighbourhoods. The residents have done an excellent job in arranging the event and should be extremely proud of their achievements”.
