A day in the life of an apprentice at Knightstone

10 March 2015

It's National Apprenticeship Week this week. To mark the week, one of our apprentices, Eszter Csalami, tells us what a typical day is like as an apprentice with us:

Every morning I wake up feeling happy and blessed that I work for a great company. I really believe it’s a luxury these days to work at a place where you feel happy and looked after.

I generally start my day by getting my desk ready and preparing my work for the day. I then do a coffee round (which everyone loves!)

Not one day is the same in my job. I know this sounds like a cliché but it’s true. One day I could be printing or scanning, another day I will be calling residents to arrange interviews and sign-ups for properties. Often they’ve been waiting for a long time and it’s great to give them the good news.

My work also involves everything from booking and organising meetings, renewing TV licences and paying communal bills, to getting the annual financial reports back from our schemes and working on CORE forms (which is a form for residents to fill out with their personal information when they move into their home).

Recently I went out shadowing my colleagues who are Floating Support Workers and Housing Officers. It was very eye-opening to see where our residents live and what support they receive from my colleagues.

I love the flexible working – I can have longer lunches and come in earlier in the mornings or work later in the afternoons, which suits me perfectly fine. I always have opportunities to talk to my manager - she is very supportive and always there for me.

Eszter started with us in March 2014 as a Customer Service Advisor apprentice. Since then, she's moved to a full-time administrator role in our Supported Housing Team where she is continuing her apprenticeship.
