Come along to “Create Fest ’14”: an event led and run by young people at the Yeovil Foyer
Young residents at our Yeovil Foyer are holding a ‘Create Fest’ on Friday 13 June between 1pm and 4.30pm.
The event opens the doors of Yeovil Foyer to the public, to showcase the young people’s talents and skills, and give visitors an insight into what it’s like to live in supported housing.
The event has been planned and organised by young people between the ages of 16 and 24, who live in supported housing in Yeovil. They’ll also host and lead the event on the day.
The Yeovil Foyer is run and managed by us, as part of the Somerset-wide Pathways to Independence Service (P2i). The P2i service offers support for homeless and vulnerable young people aged between 16 and 24. The service covers things like family mediation, housing advice, emergency accommodation and supported housing.
Will Sloan, a resident of the Yeovil Foyer and member of the Create Fest organising committee, said: “The prospect of having this open day is exciting because it will showcase the talents of all of us young people who live not only in the foyer but in supported housing as well. So come on down and join us for an event that you can enjoy and that may change your opinion about young people such as myself.”
Penny Schofield, Training and Development Manager at Knightstone, said ‘This event will be a great opportunity to come and find out what supported housing for young people is all about.
The young people we work with have a huge range of talents and have done a fantastic job organising this event themselves. We’re looking forward to a great day.’
With free entry and lots going on, it should be a great afternoon of creativity so why not join us? There will be an opportunity to:
- Learn how to make a flower from fabric
- Knit a heart
- Express your inner musician by learning to drum
- Be a DJ for the afternoon
- Get your face painted or have your nails done.
- Or simply relax and enjoy some tea, coffee and cake.
- We look forward to welcoming you, so come along to make and create!
