Money advice

Pennywise:

If you're over 25 and a first-time social housing tenant, or over 25 and a social housing tenant moving into or out of work, the Pennywise Mentors can offer:

  • Ways to maximise your income
  • Details of grants available and help to apply
  • Access to the best account for you to manage your money
  • Help to set a household budget that works for you
  • Ways to spend less and get more for your money when shopping
  • Ideas to cut costs on childcare and activities
  • Advice to reduce bills and use less energy
  • Smoothing the way when switching between benefits and work

The Trussell Trust: foodbanks and community projects, tackling poverty 

Turn2Us:  helps people in financial need gain access to welfare benefits, charitable grants and offers financial help online, by phone and face to face. You can also telephone Turn2US on 0808 802 2000 Monday to Friday 8am-8pm.

The WISH Project:

The project provides the following services:

  • one to one or group support to young people who are using or experiencing violence and aggression in their close relationships (with their partner, brother or sister, or parent)
  • one to one or group support for parents and primary carers experiencing abuse from their children.

We're now working in partnership with WISH to make sure this valuable service is available to those of you living in Bristol. WISH have been successful in securing a charitable grant from our Community Improvement Fund. If you need more information about the WISH Project, contact us.

Women's Aid: help for women and girls experiencing domestic violence and abuse

Mental health

Rethink Mental Illness: advice and information about mental health

Depression Alliance: information about living with and coping with depression

Second Step: housing and support for homeless people with mental health and support needs

LIFT Psychology (Bristol and South Gloucestershire): a free NHS service that provides group and individual support for people with a GP in Bristol or South Gloucestershire who are experiencing low mood and anxiety

LIFT Psychology (Bath and North East Somerset): a free NHS service that provides group and individual support for people with a GP in Bath and North East Somerset who are experiencing low mood and anxiety

Friend: Community Mental Health Resource Centres in Weston-super-Mare and Clevedon, serving North Somerset

Patient Advice and Liaison Service (NHS Avon and Wiltshire): a free, confidential and impartial service to give you advice, information or just someone to talk to

Employment

Remploy: veteran services, focused on disabled ex-service personnel, providing employment support

Action for Employment: work, education, training and skills support

Drug and alcohol services

Bristol Drugs Project: help for people with drug and alcohol problems and addictions

Rehab 4 Addiction - A national free drug and alcohol helpline for people affected by drug and alcohol addiction.
