We've said goodbye to our old office to make way for new homes for armed forces veterans

04 April 2016

Demolition work started last week on our old office at Lawrence Court, Worle, Weston-super-Mare.

Working with the Community Self Build Agency (CSBA), and contractors Fisher and Dean, we are developing the site into 14 new homes for affordable rent. The homes will all be for armed forces veterans in housing need, 10 of whom will take part in a ‘Train and Build’ scheme.

The ‘Train and Build’ scheme will see the veterans play a part in building their own homes, whilst learning new skills and gaining recognised qualifications to help them get in to work. Fisher and Dean will be providing on-site training and Weston College will provide more formal training at their new Construction and Engineering Centre of Excellence.

This is the third ‘Train and Build’ development we've worked together on with the CSBA . The first in West Street, Bristol, was the first scheme of its kind to specifically train and house armed forces veterans.

David Summerhill, our Senior Development Manager said: “We’re proud to be working with the CSBA on another project to provide homes for armed forces veterans in need. This will be a great regeneration of the site, and now the demolition has started, we look forward to getting started on the build in the next few weeks.”

Stella Clarke, Chairman of the CSBA said: “Support from the local community and North Somerset Council for this development has been overwhelming. It’s fantastic to see the community coming together to support such a great cause. The veterans are all ready to start building their future.”

The homes are scheduled to be finished by July 2017.
