Frome Sports Fest encourages over 120 local people to try out free sports and activities

15 April 2016

Over 120 local people took part in the free Sports Fest in Frome on Sunday.

The event was jointly organised by Frome Active and our Creating Active Communities Programme, with support and sponsorship from other local organisations.

There were a whole range of sports taster sessions on offer, including archery, fencing, tennis and climbing.

There was also the opportunity to sign up to other sessions being run by Creating Active Communities next month in Frome, including:

  • Family tennis sessions in the Mary Baily playing fields
  • Family Archery sessions in the Mary Baily playing fields
  • Self-defence classes at the Steiner Academy (Tuesdays 5.45-6.45pm)
  • Swimming for families, adults and parents/toddlers at Frome Leisure Centre
  • Adult gym sessions at Frome Leisure Centre.

Pete Davies, our Community Empowerment Manager said, “We had a great turnout at the festival and were really pleased that over 75 people signed up for our regular sessions in May.

Along with our partners, we’re striving to make a real difference to participation in sports and activities across Somerset through our Creating Active Communities Programme. Over the next 18 months, we’ll be working hard to ensure that more communities in Frome have access to sport in their area.”

There’s still time to sign up to the May sessions. They’re open to all ages and abilities.
