Another successful 'Just go for it' event

22 July 2014

The stormy weather couldn’t dampen spirits at our ‘Just go for it’ event on Saturday 19 June at The Methodist Hall, Mowcroft Road in Hartcliffe, Bristol.

The event offered a free, fun, family day out, and was well attended by nearly 50 residents and members of the local community. The Lord Mayor, Councillor Alastair Watson attended along with the Lady Mayoress. Councillor Mark Brain, Knightstone Director Anne Duff and Board members, Barrie Dale and Jacqui Cross also attended to meet and talk to residents.

The event was the second of our 'Just go for it' events, and gave residents the opportunity to meet the Team who work in South Bristol, find out what services they provide and how they can access them, including housing and benefit advice.

The Centre for Sustainable Energy provided energy saving advice. Other companies who attended included SARI, Kids Co, Waste Doctor and Knowle West Media Centre who encouraged people to get on-line. Refreshments were provided free of charge throughout the day by Spicers Catering.

The event was supported by our contractors EmmDee who have recently been awarded contracts to deliver our response repairs and electrical testing in the Bristol area over the next five years.

Visitors were kept busy with drumming and circus skills workshops, face painting and crafts, and were encouraged to collect stamps from the stalls to be entered into a prize draw to win High Street vouchers. Toe-tapping live music was provided by talented Knightstone staff throughout the day.

Anne Duff, Director of Corporate Services added “It’s been a fantastic day and we’re pleased so many people came along despite the bad weather.

It’s given us the opportunity to showcase the services we offer, as well as those provided by other organisations in a fun, friendly environment. We’ve been able to engage with residents and people from across South Bristol. We always enjoy working with local organisations who can offer advice to our residents, and this event was no different. A big thank you to all involved”

One resident who attended the event said, “I’ve really enjoyed today.  I’ve learnt to unblock a sink and how to use energy better in my home. It’s been a fun day and I’ve enjoyed socialising and meeting new people who live in my area.”

The event follows the launch of our film, also entitled ‘Just go for it’. The film captures the stories and experiences of the residents and staff who work together to shape the services that we provide for our customers.
