We joined Voluntary Action North Somerset and 28 other community organisations to celebrate Volunteers’ Week
On Monday 2 June, we celebrated Volunteers' Week 2014 with Voluntary Action North Somerset (VANS) at a ‘Volunteers of the Year’ awards ceremony, held at our head office in Weston-super-Mare.
We were joined by 28 other voluntary and community bodies across North Somerset, all of whom nominated their own ‘volunteer of the year’ to attend. The awards ranged from long service, outstanding contribution to the work of the organisation and stand-out dedication.
Wendy Bryant, Volunteer Centre Manager at VANS, said, “Volunteering can help you to increase your confidence and develop skills and experience, whilst meeting new people, and improving your quality of life.
We really want to thank all those people who volunteer in such a wonderful variety of ways across North Somerset.”
Ele Regan, Volunteer Coordinator at Knightstone said, “Our volunteers make an invaluable contribution to the communities we work in and this is a great opportunity for us to say thank you to them.
Volunteering is a key part of our new Into Work service – it’s a great way to get back into work and can even help move you up in your job. We’re here to help our residents access a range of opportunities to suit them.”
Voluntary Action North Somerset’s (VANS) 2013 ‘State of the Sector’ survey for the VCSE sector in the area found people donated 61,160 volunteer hours per week, giving a monetary value of £23,699,338 per year to North Somerset based on the national Living Wage.
Volunteers’ Week is an annual celebration of the fantastic contribution millions of volunteers make across the UK, this year taking place from 1-7 June 2014. This year is the 30th anniversary of the week.
