Social events for older residents are a great success
We've arranged two successful events for residents in our sheltered housing schemes, to give them the chance to get to know each other and to see other Knightstone schemes across the south west.
The first event was held in July last year. Our Older Persons’ Social Coordinator, Jamie Dockerty, arranged a big quiz which was held at Knightstone House in Weston-super-Mare.
Transport and lunch was provided for around 90 residents who came along and there were teams representing eight different sheltered schemes. In the end it was the hosts, Knightstone House, who were the winners.
Following this success, the residents decided they’d like to put on an arts show. Residents submitted their own items for an exhibition-style event which was held in November at our Extra Care scheme, Springfields in Filton, Bristol.
Around 50 residents attended on the day, along with older persons’ service activity volunteers. Vice Chair of our Board, Barrie Dale and Resident Board Member, Jacqui Cross also attended, to act as judges for the art and to get to know those at the event.
Sylvia Furzeman, Team Manager at Knightstone, said ‘I was very impressed with the standard and quality of the art that was produced by our residents and it was great to see so many people enjoying themselves. We had a huge range of submissions, from photography and needlework, to furniture making and sculpture.
I’m really looking forward to seeing more of these events taking place.’
We're already planning the next round of events, and will be extending our invitation to residents aged 55 and over.
