Rent a home.
If you are already a Knightstone tenant and would like to move to a property owned by us, or another Council or Housing Association, there are two options available to you:
You'll join a housing register and bid for properties that are advertised each week in the local paper and on websites.
You find a tenant who also wants to move and swap homes.
There are a limited number of properties available so we recommend you use both options to find a new home.
Would you like to rent a home on an Affordable Rent Tenancy?
An Affordable Rent Tenancy (ART) is a new housing association alternative to social rent.
New homes and existing properties will be let on the terms of the new ART. If you’re a Knightstone resident who’d like to move give us a call for more information or call the housing association advertising the home you like.
These changes to the type of tenancy offered will not affect you if you’re a Knightstone resident not looking to move.
Homes let on an ART will cost up to 80% of the gross open market rent. If you get Housing Benefit you’ll continue to be paid in the same way as for social rented properties.
The tenancy's for a minimum of five years. This could be longer or a lifetime tenancy depending on the housing association.
Affordable Rent homes will be advertised through Choice Based Lettings schemes:
- Home Choice Bristol
- Gloucestershire Homeseeker
- Somerset Homefinder
- North Somerset HomeChoice.
Homes will be allocated in the same way as social housing, with some additional assessment criteria. The adverts for ART properties will clearly say it’s an Affordable Rent Tenancy and will include details of the rent and length of tenancy.
If you're offered a tenancy the housing association will talk to you about what it means and how you’ll afford to pay the rent. You will also find out what is likely to happen at the end of the tenancy. This includes contacting you at least six months before the end of the tenancy to discuss your options, which could include a new tenancy on your current home, or another. It could also include advice and support about home ownership options or renting in the private sector.
Many of you will need to stay in affordable housing, either in your current home or a more suitable property. Others will be able to move on to low cost home ownership or private rented housing.
If you’re a Knightstone resident thinking of moving, or taking up a tenancy with us and want to know more about ART, get in touch.
