Election for Resident Involvement Strategy Group and Tenant Board Member

One of the Audit Commission recommendations to Knightstone was to improve the democratic processes which underpin the electoral system through which residents gain access to all positions from the Board down to resident involvement groups. As part of our action plan in reply to this recommendation we decided to undertake an election for our Tenant Board Member role and the Resident Involvement Strategy Group.

Earlier in the year we commissioned the Electoral Reform Service to help us elect six members to the Resident Involvement Strategy (RISG) and one Tenant Board Member. We promoted the election to all residents and customers using Knightlife, the website as well as sending an information postcard to encourage residents to stand as candidates. Following the promotion 9 residents decided to stand as candidates for the Tenant Board member role and 20 residents stood as candidates for RISG.

All eligible Knightstone, Futures and Nectar homes received a ballot pack through the post and the closing date for the ballot was noon 3rd May 2011. The Electoral Reform Service counted and validated the votes which resulted in six residents with the highest vote count being elected to RISG. The three candidates with the highest vote count who stood for the Board Member role proceeded to a further selection stage which decided which resident should be offered the Tenant Board role.

As two elections took place at the same time we received 902 ballot papers of which 887 were accepted as valid for the Tenant Board member election, and for the Resident Involvement Strategy Group election we received 1089 ballot papers of which 932 were accepted as valid.

Following a series of interviews Tony Gosling has been put forward to Board.

His appointment was formalised at the Annual General Meeting in September.

Debbie Davis
Marilyn Jenkins
Doris Clark
Petronella Foot
Trevor Binks
Tessa Salter

Thank you to those of you who voted.

The geographical changes that will take place during the next 18 months are likely to impact on the elected members of the Resident Involvement Strategy Group.  In August the Resident Involvement Strategy Group discussed this issue and decided to increase the number of residents on the group by two.  They offered positions to the next two candidates with the highest number of votes.  We are pleased to confirm that Margaret Currie Inglis and Kenneth Baker have accepted these roles and will join the other resident members of the Resident Involvement Strategy Group.

We’ll keep you updated on when they’ll start in their new roles.
