Knightstone Affordable Homes open in Sterte

25/01/2010

An event was held last week to mark the official opening of ‘Oyster Bay Apartments’, a new development by Knightstone Housing Association in partnership with Poole Borough Council in Holes Bay, Sterte in Poole.

The scheme has created 44 new homes with a mixture of affordable rent and intermediate rent. The new homes were funded with a mixture of both government funding from the Homes and Communities Agency and private funding raised by Knightstone. The new homes will be occupied by residents from the local area.

The opening took place on Friday 15 January conducted by the Mayor of Poole, along with Stewart Wright, Chairman of Knightstone Housing Association. A bottle of champagne was launched at the building to commemorate the official opening of the development.

Planning permission was granted in March 2008 after extensive consultation with local residents, community groups and council officers. The new apartments built by Mansell Partnership Housing comprise 13 x one bed apartments, 25 x two bed apartments, 3 x three bed apartments along with 3 x three bedroom houses.

Jonathan Thornton Development Manager said: ”We are delighted to officially open the scheme which will provide much-needed affordable homes for local people on low incomes in Poole.”

Knightstone Housing Association and Mansell Partnership Housing have worked closely with the local community throughout the duration of the project. Students from Poole High School were invited to the opening to display their designs after taking part in a competition to design a logo for the new scheme. Students were asked to design a logo reflecting the Holes Bay area.

Gary Toomer Project Manager for Knightstone Housing Association said “The quality of the designs submitted were fantastic, it was extremely hard to select a winning design! We are pleased to say that all of the designs will be displayed in the building.”
